Mason Greenwood has returned to Manchester United to hold showdown talks with club bosses.

Greenwood drove to the club's Carrington training complex today for the first time since being kicked out of the England squad for breaching Covid-19 protocols.

The teenager was sent home in shame from Iceland along with team-mate Phil Foden after the pair were caught taking girls back to the squad's hotel in Reykjavik following England's 1-0 last weekend.

Greenwood, 18 and 20-year-old Manchester City ace Foden flew back to Manchester on a private jet and face the axe from England boss Gareth Southgate.

Greenwood was summoned to United's training base to meet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and senior club figures to explain his actions while on international duty.

The scandal came less than three weeks after United captain Harry Maguire was arrested in Greece following a drunken brawl with police.

Maguire was convicted of aggravated assault and attempting to bribe officers and given a suspended jail sentence after being convicted. He has appealed and will look to clear his name at a future trial.

United are keen to shield Greenwood from the media glare and protect him from any further fall out.

He is undergoing a Covid-19 risk assessment before Solskjaer decides when it might be suitable for the teenage sensation to return to first team training.

Solskjaer will discuss the breach of discipline with Greenwood and warn him that more lapses in judgement could put his United career at serious risk.

Both Manchester clubs issued statements condemning the incident, with City slamming Foden's behaviour as 'totally inappropriate' and United expressing their disappointment in Greenwood.

United open their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on September 19 and it remains to be seen if Solskjaer is willing to include Greenwood in his squad.
