Martin Odegaard is already exciting Arsenal team-mates inside first few days

Bernd Leno says new Arsenal signing Martin Odegaard is already exciting his team-mates in training after joining on loan from Real Madrid earlier this week.

Odegaard will ply his trade with Mikel Arteta’s side until the end of the season after sealing his loan move from Madrid, where he had struggled for game time this term.

The 22-year-old came off the bench to make his Gunners debut on Saturday, playing the last 10 minutes of their 0-0 draw with Manchester United at the Emirates.

While he is yet to properly show Arsenal fans what he can do, however, Leno believes they should be “very excited” by their new recruit.

“I think we should all be very excited because he is an attacking midfield player who is turning, wants to go forward, wants to play passes and create chances and have assists,” said the Gunners goalkeeper.

“In his first days he has been very impressive and has been very open to everyone, and I think we will have a lot of fun with him in the next months.”

Before the stalemate with United, Arteta outlined the qualities he believes Odegaard is capable of bringing to his side between now and the end of the season.

“He's a player that we followed for some time and we believe that he's got some special qualities that we need, that we have been missing,” he said.

“Now we have to give him a little bit of time. He hasn't played that many minutes in Madrid but he's been training hard and he looks so excited, as we are, to have another big talent at our club.

“I think in the last few seasons he's progressed and developed in the right way.
