Manchester United ‘have put Cristiano Ronaldo transfer offer’ to Jorge Mendes

Manchester United have reportedly pitched the idea of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford to the Juventus star’s agent Jorge Mendes. The 35-year-old could leave the Old Lady as they look to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. And a blockbuster move back to the Premier League might be on the cards.

United signed Ronaldo in 2003 after he terrorised them in a pre-season friendly for Sporting Lisbon.

He fired the club to FA Cup glory during his first season at Old Trafford, before helping them win the EFL Cup in 2006.

Ronaldo then hit his stride and propelled United to three straight Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, while also helping them lift the Champions League prize back in 2008.

Now, talk of a return is starting to gather momentum.

Juventus are looking to sell Ronaldo next summer to balance the books, with the Serie A giants impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

And El Grafico in Argentina say that United have pitched a stunning return for their former No 7 to his agent, Mendes.

Mendes and Ronaldo are both intrigued by the offer and the Juventus star is open to moving back to the Theatre of Dreams, 11 years after he departed for Real Madrid.

It’s claimed the Portugal international is also open to joining Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 giants keen on bringing him to France to play alongside Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

But whether United are able to bring Ronaldo back all these years on remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, speaking earlier in the year, former Red Devils star Patrice Evra revealed Ferguson was confident of re-signing Ronaldo shortly before his retirement.

“You know, you talk about the hardest moments [in my United career], I would say maybe this is the one,” he said of the Scot’s decision to call it quits.

“Two weeks before that, I remember there was a lot of media saying Ferguson will maybe retire next year, and he said, ‘Patrice, I will never retire. I will be here for another 10 years’.”

“He then said: ‘My target is I’m 99 per cent sure we will have Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. I just need these two players to win the Champions League again. Ninety-nine per cent.’

“And to be fair, when I speak with Cristiano, I ask him and he said yes to the boss, and was coming to join United. He told me this.”

Former United star Louis Saha, who played alongside Ronaldo, previously stated a return for the forward would be a ‘dream’.

“What he does right now as a footballer, it is insane,” Saha said. “The physicality that he has still got, that drive.

“Imagine the impact he would have on the forwards that we have right now.

“They would see the obsession that this guy has got and that would be a great example. He is more obsessed than anybody I have seen.

“Even [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy was not in his league in the way that he is acting in front of goal.

“He wants every ball over the 90 minutes and it is a joy to see.

“His dedication is unbelievable so to see him back at United would be more than a dream, because I’m sure that he would have a massive impact. Maybe less goals, but it would be amazing.”
