Man Utd’s transfer committee identify two striker targets as Solskjaer reviews plans

Manchester United have set their sights on two strikers ahead of Odion Ighalo’s imminent departure from the club. Nigeria international Ighalo’s loan spell with the Red Devils is set to come to an end next week.

United signed the former Watford man in January to alleviate their woes up front following injury to their main striker Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils have held talks with United over extending Ighalo’s stint at Old Trafford but have yet to strike an agreed with Shanghai Shenhua.

Should United be unable to convince the Chinese Super League side to extend Igahlo’s loan spell, he’ll be forced to return to Shanghai next week.

And according to reports, United’s failure to convince Shenhua to extended Igahlo’s loan spell has prompted them to look at other targets.

Manchester United are contemplating signing either Timo Werner or Moussa Dembele

The London Evening Standard claim the United brass are contemplating signing  Timo Werner or Moussa Dembele whenever the transfer window reopens.

It’s claimed the duo have been ‘identified by United’s transfer committee’ as serious targets to bolster the club’s chances of competing for the Premier League title next season.

Both Werner and Dembele have been in exceptional form this season, scoring 30 and 22 goals respectively.

Given the current financial climate, Werner and Dembele’s respective clubs, RB Leipzig and Lyon, will likely try to hold United to ransom.

That could prove to be a headache for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose war chest will be drastically reduced by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Prior to the global pandemic, it was understood that Solskjaer was planning a major overhaul of his squad.

Top of the Norwegian’s wish list is Borussia Dortmund winger Jason Sancho, who United have been tracking for over a year.

A £100million bid has been mooted for the England international, who is also on the radar of Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Solskjaer has remained tight-lipped on United’s plans for the next transfer window, although he recently revealed he doesn’t want to have any prima donnas in his squad for next season.

“I’d rather have a hole in the squad than an a**ehole,” he said. “Personality is so important. We’re a team in a team environment.

“You want players to have a bit of ego and edge but they have to be able to adapt.

“There were other things I didn’t like last year, some personal agendas which couldn’t be sorted out until the summer.”
