Man Utd urged to ‘pay up’ or risk spending over the odds for Jadon Sancho

Stan Collymore has told Manchester United to open their cheque-books and complete a transfer for Jadon Sancho as soon as possible – or risk having to pay more at the end of the window.

Sancho is known to be the Red Devils' No.1 target this summer, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to be a big fan of the Dortmund forward.

It is believed Sancho has agreed personal terms with United, but a fee between the two sides is yet to be agreed, with Dortmund insisting they will not accept anything under £100m.

And writing in his column for Mirror Sport, Collymore stated his belief that United would be better off splashing out now rather than letting negotiations drag on.

"My message to Manchester United over Jadon Sancho is simple: ‘Pay up’," Collymore said.

"United fans have been frothing at the gills with teasers, rumours and speculation about Sancho, and none of it has been entirely dampened by the club.

"So if they want him, Ed Woodward needs to get that big Old Trafford wallet out and get the deal done, otherwise Dortmund’s poker face will have United paying well over the odds just before the window finally shuts."

United legend Paul Scholes also called for his former team to sign the player following the 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-final on Monday.

Speaking while working as a pundit for BT Sport, Scholes said: "I thought they were good tonight, but that 15 minutes after half-time, you have got to score them. We talk about spending money and about buying centre-forwards and wide players, you are talking about millions but they score the big goals.

"I think if Sancho is in that team tonight they score one of those."

It remains to be seen if things move forward in the coming weeks, but it is a deal that could well drag on until the very end of the window.
