Man Utd told price tag for David Brooks as much cheaper Jadon Sancho alternative

Manchester United have been told they must pay £40million to prise David Brooks away from Bournemouth this summer.

The Red Devils have reportedly identified Jadon Sancho as their top transfer target this summer, but Borussia Dortmund are demanding £100million for their star man.

Following the coronavirus pandemic, and having forked out £67million to sign Bruno Fernandes in January, it is believed United are struggling to meet Dortmund’s valuation.

According to The Sun, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co have pinpointed Brooks as a cheaper alternative to Sancho – however they will have to fork out £40million to bring him to Old Trafford.

United are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and are ready to sanction the deal this summer, despite Bournemouth’s fairly hefty asking price.

Brooks, who spent the majority of last season out injured, left Sheffield United to join the Cherries for £11.5million back in 2018.

He enjoyed a solid debut season in the Premier League, netting seven goals in 30 appearances.

New Bournemouth boss Jason Tindall is determined to keep Brooks at the Vitality Stadium next season as he plots an instant return to the top flight.

However, Cherries owner Maxim Demin is reportedly prepared to let him leave for the right price this summer to reduce the financial impact of their relegation to the Championship.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and former club Sheffield United are also said to be interested in signing Brooks.

Solskjaer may seek the opinion of former United team-mate Ryan Giggs before tabling an offer for Brooks, who has earned 12 caps for Wales.

The Norwegian also spoke with Giggs about Daniel James prior to his £15million switch to Old Trafford last summer.

“Ole asked me about him,” Giggs told the Webby & O’Neill channel.

“Ole was the one that came to me, it wasn’t the other way [around].

“It was last season. He nearly went to Leeds before that so Ole knew about him and the club had been watching him.”
