Man Utd star trains alone as club refuse to meet £25m asking price

Chris Smalling is training alone at Manchester United as the club continue to demand a £25 million transfer fee from Roma, according to reports.

The 30-year-old spent last season at Roma and the Serie A club are keen to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal.

However, The Telegraph report that United are not willing to accept Roma’s current offer for Smalling and are holding out to receive a £25m bid.

Roma, however, are unwilling to pay such a high fee for a player United were willing to let go last summer and is currently not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

According to reports in Italy earlier this month, Roma opened discussions with United with an offer of £11m.

Smalling trained on his own at Carrington on Tuesday while the rest of the squad travelled down south for their Carabao Cup tie against Luton Town.

Meanwhile, Roma manager Paulo Fonseca said last week that he believes Smalling will end up joining his side once again.

‘I’m confident,’ Fonseca said. ‘We’re working to get Smalling here.

‘I’m in contact with him, I spoke to him yesterday.

‘He wants to be here and we want him here. He could join us in the next few days.’
