Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is pushing the club into signing Nuno Mendes, according to reports. The Sporting Lisbon left-back has been in fine form this season. And the Red Devils could use Alex Telles in a swap deal to bring the youngster to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens.
Manchester United are well-stocked at left-back.
Luke Shaw has improved considerably under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the England international enjoying the best season of his career.
And Telles has proven to be a good deputy for the Red Devils ever since his arrival from Porto back in the summer transfer window.
Despite that, however, Record in Portugal claim United could swoop for Mendes at the end of the campaign.
The 18-year-old has flourished this season, scoring one goal and registering one assist from 20 Primeira Liga matches.
Fernandes, who played alongside Mendes at Sporting before joining United in the summer transfer window of 2020, is reportedly pushing the club into striking a deal.

And it’s claimed the Red Devils could use Telles as bait to bring the exciting 18-year-old to England this summer.
Whether United listen to Fernandes and aggressively pursue Mendes remains to be seen, especially given the good options Solskjaer currently has at his disposal.
But the Red Devils won’t want to risk upsetting their star man, who has scored 16 goals and registered 10 assists from 29 Premier League matches this term.
Mendes isn’t United’s only target, either.
They’re looking at signing a right-back to compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, whose path to Solskjaer’s first team is clear for the time being.
Norwich City defender Max Aarons has been linked, while the Red Devils did ponder a shock deal for Kieran Trippier in January before ultimately choosing to save their cash.

A centre-back is in their sights, too.
Raphael Varane has long been admired at Old Trafford, while Sevilla’s Jules Kounde has put himself on United’s wishlist with some fine showings in La Liga this term.
In midfield, United are admirers of Declan Rice.
And, up top, they crave the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland – with the latter their priority at the current moment in time.
Meanwhile, Telles has opened up on his rivalry with Shaw – and insisted the two players were spurning each other on behind the scenes.
“I’ve always said that, when you’ve got players of the highest quality in the team, then the thing that ends up benefiting is Manchester United; the team,” he said.
“Since I’ve arrived here, I’ve worked as hard as I can and I’ve done everything I can to show that I deserve to be here, and I think I’ve done that.
“At the same time, I’m really happy for Luke Shaw, who has made great progress and has been playing really well. He trains really well and he’s done excellently in the matches as well.
“When you’ve got a situation like that, then the team can only benefit from it.
“And it’s Man United that wins from that [situation].
“In terms of the two of us, we both motivate each other and push each other further forward and we help each other. That’s really, really important throughout the team, independent of the positions we play.”
Telles also revealed he used music to relax away from football.
“Away from football, it’s all about music for me,” he said.
“I really like playing instruments, I like singing, I’ve got some instruments at home and if a day, game or training session hasn’t gone that well I like to be on my own in my music space.”
“I spend about two or three hours playing a song or listening to music,” he added.
“So my interest is playing instruments, it’s what I most like to do when I’m not playing football.”
