Man Utd fans rejoice as Atletico Madrids European disaster proves beneficial

Manchester United fans were rejoicing after Atletico Madrid were knocked out of Europe altogether.

Atletico were already out of contention for the Champions League knockout stages heading into their final group game in Porto. But a 2-1 defeat, coupled with Bayer Leverkusen's 0-0 draw with Club Brugge, meant they finished bottom and didn't even qualify for the Europa League.

That came as a relief to supporters of Erik ten Hag's side who were fearful of drawing them in the knockout stages of the tournament, especially as Atletico dumped United out of the Champions League last season in the round of 16 with a 2-1 aggregate win.

One wrote: "Speak for every United fan when we say we’re happy to see this." Another commented: "God bless. I couldn't be doing that again."

"News to brighten up my day," said a third. A fourth added: "Thankfully we don’t have to sit through 180 mins of their s***."

"Thank goodness we don't have to witness their boring football," echoed another. And others saw it as a transfer opportunity come the January window.

Who will win the Europa League? Let us know in the comments section.

One tweeted: "Give us Joao Felix." Another posted: "Couldn’t of happened to a nicer team. Now sell us Felix." And a third wrote: "I don't feel bad for them. They could give us Felix now."

United travel to Spain to face Real Sociedad in their final Europa League group game on Thursday (November 3). They've already secured second spot but could avoid having to play an extra round if they can win by two goals or more.
