Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided Jadon Sancho with transfer update during call

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told Jadon Sancho that he believes a deal to sign the English wonderkid is close to being completed, and could be finalised soon. United have been after Sancho throughout the summer, and Norwegian outlet Dagbladet claims Solskjaer has been in touch with the Borussia Dortmund ace.

Sancho is still United’s top transfer target, and the Red Devils are believed to be confident they’ll be able to complete the deal.

Dortmund have demanded £108million for the winger, and are refusing to discuss letting him go for less.

United’s only signing this summer was Donny van de Beek, with the Ajax midfielder costing £40m, but they remain keen on Sancho.

The Red Devils already failed to meet Dortmund’s August 10th deadline for the deal to be completed, but are still the only club in the running for his signature.

United are believed to think they can wait until the latter stages of the window before making their move, and that they’ll be able to get a discount on the £108m.

Sancho has already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract worth a reported £340,000-per-week, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.

The player was also reportedly speaking to United players while away on England duty, and told them he wanted the move.

And now, Solskjaer has apparently got involved in the negotiations.

According to Dagbladet, United want to sign two players before the window closes – including Sancho.

The report states Solskjaer recently called Sancho to reassure him that the deal will be done soon, but that there were difficulties preventing its completion at the moment.

United are believed to be trying to raise funds before pulling the trigger on a bid for Sancho, with numerous players expected to leave before the deadline of October 5th

Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast claims the Red Devils are planning to wait until the end of the window before making their move.

Premier League done deals: Every confirmed transfer in the summer window so far

He said: “United believe that if they leave the final negotiation until the final week of the window, that Dortmund – who don’t have any offers for the player and want to maximise their profits – will cave in and agree to the terms that United have already offered.

“Manchester United’s quarterly reports are due next week for the three months when Covid shut football down, and board members have been warned that they will not look good, because the revenue for matchday revenue etc are going to be completely wiped out. That will have an impact on what United will spend.

“The belief is that there will be a further decline on football finances in the next 12 months, and Dortmund will realise they have to cash in on Sancho at a very high rate of profit, and United will get – not a hugely different deal – but a better deal than the one they believed they’d agreed.

“Barring a catastrophic collapse of all the talks which have taken place and the verbal talks which have been agreed, Jadon Sancho will be a Manchester United player before the window closes next month.”
