Raging Manchester United fans have caused #MaguireOut to trend on Twitter after Harry Maguire’s poor performance against Liverpool.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night in another thrashing against Jurgen Klopp’s side, following a 5-0 loss at Old Trafford in October.

Although the entire team played poorly, Maguire was partially at fault for two of Liverpool’s four goals and came in for criticism after the match.

The centre back was caught badly out of position for Luis Diaz’ opener after just five minutes, which opened the floodgates.

Maguire went to press Sadio Mane almost at the halfway line, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah to run through almost unopposed before Salah squared it for Colombian Diaz to tap home.

Mohamed Salah doubled the lead midway through the first half, before Sadio Mane netted shortly after the hour mark to make it three.

Maguire then misdirected an attempted pass to Hannibal Mejbri, allowing the hosts to win back possession. He had enough time and a clear passing avenue to find midfielder Mejbri, but sliced the attempted cross-field switch, allowing Andy Robertson to win the ball – 12 seconds later the ball was in the net.

However, some fans on Twitter jumped to the 29-year-old’s defence, insisting other players were also to blame and that much-maligned Maguire is often made a ‘scapegoat’ for collective failings.

One said: ‘Why tf are you guys trying to make him a scapegoat here?? He evidently had to press Mane there because United’s midfield was nonexistent but since it’s Maguire ofc let’s blame him.’

Another added: ‘Maguire’s positioning on Liverpool’s first goal wasn’t the only problem, Man United’s entire team was very disorganized on the pitch & seriously underperformed.’

A third posted: ‘Every time something goes wrong, you guys blame Maguire. He doesn’t require this at this time. Show him how much you care and how much you want him to succeed. Manchester United is already struggling.’

While another continued: ‘Not Maguire’s fault. Matic and Pogba are way out of position so Maguire is having to come out of position to close down Mane. You won’t blame Pogba or Matic tho, it wouldn’t get you as many likes.’
