Manchester City are reportedly not willing to offer Barcelona any of their top players in a bid to sweet talk them into selling Lionel Messi this summer.
The Premier League side are the favourites to land the Argentina ace after he told the Catalans that he wanted to leave the Nou Camp.
Pep Guardiola is said to be keen to be reunited with his former charge and a sensational move to the Etihad could be on the cards.
The Spaniard has spoken with Messi and the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is believed to favour joining City over others, but there is still a long way to go.
Complexities surrounding a potential deal could drag on for some time with no clear indication yet over how much City would have to pay to sign the forward.
There are some suggestions that Messi could be available on a free transfer and others that Barcelona will insist that they pay his £630m release clause.
But City will not be offering up any of their own players to try and persuade the Spaniards to sell, according to the BBC .
Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus have all been mentioned as players who could possibly be offered as part-exchange for Messi.
But it is claimed all three, who play an integral part in Guardiola’s team, will be staying at the Etihad this summer.
Eric Garcia and Angelino could yet be offered as makeweights in a deal but they are far from key players at the club and are regarded as different cases.
Garcia only has one-year left on his contract and is refusing to sign and extension, while Barcelona have already enquired about full-back Angelino.
He impressed on loan at German side RB Leipzig last season and the Catalans are interested in a possible move.
Messi’s father Jorge has reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain that his son wants to move to City.
The French side are another team being strongly linked with the Argentine but he prefers to team up with Guardiola again over playing in Ligue 1.
