Lucky punter turns £15 into £20,000 from Arsenal’s 90th minute winner at Palace

Arsenal’s dramatic win against Crystal Palace helped one lucky punter turn £15 into £20,000.

The Gunners needed a stoppage-time goal from Gabriel Martinelli to secure a 3-1 win against the Eagles, having been pegged level by Christian Benteke.

It keeps their European ambitions alive, with a place in the Europa Conference League the best they can achieve with a win against Brighton if other results go their way.

While Mikel Arteta’s victory keeps the North London side fighting on the last day, though, it left a lucky punter taking home a wad of cash.

Betfair revealed that one of the customers landed £20,000 one a 12-game accumulator from Wednesday night’s action.

The punter needed wins in the Premier League, Italy’s Coppa Italia, Portuguese Preimeira Liga, Ligue 1, Eredivisie and Danish Superliga in order to secure the win, given odds of 1,360/1 on a £15 bet.

With 90 minutes gone, a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park would not have been enough for the Betfair customer to secure their prize.

But Martinelli’s run behind the Eagles’ defence saw him get onto Martin Odegaard’s cross before bundling into the back of the net in stoppage time, with Nicolas Pepe strolling in for his second two minutes later.

And that final score left the punter with a massive victory of their own, taking home £20,477.26.

The accumulator considered Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Burnley, keeping them in the hunt for Champions League football, as well Everton’s 1-0 win over Wolves to stay in the fight for Europa League football.

While West Ham are also still in the hunt for the continent’s second-tier tournament following their 3-1 win over West Brom, with Newcastle beating Sheffield United 1-0.

Juventus may be struggling for a top-four spot in Serie A but they secured a trophy on Wednesday with a 2-1 Coppa Italia win over Atalanta.

Three Primeira Liga games in Portugal required wins for Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and Rio Ave – all of which came against Vitoria, Maritime and Rio Ave on the last day of the season.

While Feyenoord are out of the race in Holland for European football, their 2-0 pride victory over Sparta helped secure the £20,000 for the punter.

And PSG’s 2-0 win over Monaco to lift the French Cup provided the last piece of the prize-winning puzzle.
