Liverpool sealed a first Premier League crown in June but as still expected to add in the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp opted to stick with his squad 12 months ago and made no major additions.
This time round though the German is likely to bring in one or two big names with a deal for Thiago rumoured to be close.
There has been plenty of talk that the Reds need to bring in a forward to provide cover, or compete with, their electric front three.
Timo Werner was reported to be a target but he has been snapped up by Chelsea leaving the champions of England to look elsewhere.
But here are the latest rumours involved the Merseyside outfit.
Liverpool ‘scout’ Schalke midfielder
Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie who currently plays under David Wagner.
According to 90MIN, the Reds have increased their scouting interest in McKennie and view the 21-year-old as a long-term target to bring to Anfield.
Given his age, McKennie could be the right type of signing to add to Liverpool’s midfield with both Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum nearing the end of their physical peaks respectively.
While Thiago Alcantara has also been linked with a move to Anfield, McKennie presents a more long-term project than the 29-year-old midfielder.
Young left-back mooted as Robertson understudy
Liverpool’s lack of depth at left-back could be solved by signing a young understudy to Andrew Robertson.
The Athletic reports that Crewe Alexandra’s Harry Pickering boasts very similar attributes to Robertson as an attacking left-back.
While a move for the youngster would indeed be ambitious, similarities to Roberton suggest that the left-back would be an interesting prospect and one that could develop in the future.
At the age of 25, Robertson has many years ahead of him yet the lack of depth at left-back has been viewed as a major issue that needs resolving this summer.
