Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele has reportedly emerged as a January target for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is said to be keen on bolstering his forward ranks at the turn of the year. Dembele joined the Catalan giants from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 but has endured a turbulent spell at the Nou Camp in the years since.

The 24-year-old has often struggled with injury problems, ultimately preventing him from reaching his full potential at Barcelona.

However, Liverpool have not been deterred and see Dembele as the ideal solution to rejuvenate their options at the top of the pitch, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Klopp, who managed Dortmund for seven years prior to Dembele’s arrival in 2016, is said to be ‘in love’ with the player and has informed Liverpool chiefs of his desire to bring him to Anfield.

The Barcelona man is well known for his ability to play with either foot and is capable of filling any position across a front three, making him the perfect candidate to supplement Liverpool’s attacking unit.

Klopp’s interest in Dembele does not appear to have been diminished by his previous struggles with the forward, who stayed in a property owned by the Liverpool boss during his spell at Dortmund.

He rented one of several houses that Klopp was letting out near the German city but left it in a perilous condition after forcing through his move to Barcelona in 2017.

Dembele ‘trashed’ the place, leaving bin bags to fester outside the front door while an abandoned, rain-soaked armchair took up space in the garden, according to Bild.

It is claimed that he also left old clothes, such as underwear and socks, strewn all over the property after leaving for the Spanish capital.

Klopp was said to have been enraged by Dembele’s lack of regard for the house, but the 54-year-old appears to have forgiven him if reports of Liverpool’s interest in the Frenchman are accurate.

The Reds have been linked with Dembele for a number of years and tried to bring him to Merseyside before he left Rennes in 2016.

He previously revealed that Klopp had approached him with regards to an Anfield switch, but his move to Dortmund was already set in stone.

“I saw Klopp in Paris, but I told him I’d made up my mind to sign for BVB,” Dembele told FourFourTwo.

Meanwhile, Klopp hinted at an interest in signing the World Cup winner during a press conference back in 2018, suggesting that he is a long-time admirer of the player.

“Oooh, he’s on the market? Now I’m interested,” replied the Liverpool boss when quizzed on a potential move for Dembele.

“OK, I never comment on transfer rumours, I’ve already said much more than I usually say.”

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can be successful in convincing Dembele to try his luck in the Premier League ahead of next season.

He will be out of contract in the summer, meaning that he can negotiate a free transfer with a non-Spanish club from January.
