Trent Alexander-Arnold has broken his silence following the news he will miss this summer’s Euro 2020 tournament due to injury. Alexander-Arnold picked up a thigh injury late on in the 1-0 friendly win over Austria on Wednesday. The 22-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, which rules him out of the entire competition.

Alexander-Arnold immediately clutched his leg when attempting to clear a ball in the 86th minute of the match at the Riverside.

He signalled to England boss Gareth Southgate that he needed to come off and has been since diagnosed with a grade two tear of his quad.

Alexander-Arnold has taken to social media for the first time since the news broke.

The Liverpool star tweeted “absolutely gutted” along with a picture of himself from Wednesday’s match.

Speaking to ITV after the midweek win, Southgate said the concerns were immediate for Alexander-Arnold.

“It’s obviously not good to see him having to come off in the way he did, but we’ll have to assess him over the next 24 hours.

“I think (it’s his) thigh, but the medical team are still assessing it.

“We’ll just have to see, it’s not a good sign to see him walk off in the way that he did, so we’ll know more in the next 24 or 48 hours.

“We don’t know the full extent, so the last thing you want is to see him come off in the way that he did.”
