Liverpool will make their move for Thiago Alcantara next week with a €15m (£13.5m) bid, according to reports.
Jurgen Klopp ’s side have been strongly linked with the Bayern Munich midfielder with Thiago set to leave in the coming weeks.
However, Bayern value him around £30m and Liverpool are hesitant to pay that much for a 29-year-old despite his playing style appealing to Klopp.
According to Italian journalist and transfer expert Nicolo Schira Liverpool plan to up their pursuit next week when they enter official negotiations as Thiago has already agreed a four-year deal with the club.
“Next week talks between #Liverpool and #BayernMunich for #ThiagoAlcantara will officially start,” he tweeted.
“#Reds don’t want to pay €30-35M asking price by Bayern, because Thiago’s contract expires next June.
“They are preparing a bid of €15M. #LFC agreed personal terms for 4-year contract.”
Liverpool already have seven senior midfielders on their books and so should Bayern hold firm in their valuation the Merseyside club could walk away.
Bayern chiefs have certainly not been shy in pushing Thiago towards the Premier League in recent weeks.
“Thiago is 29 now and as soon as the ‘3’ is up it will be a little more difficult to find a top club in Europe, so you have to understand him a little bit,” chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rumenigge said.

“He had a top club in Spain, a top club in Germany so maybe he would like to join a top club in England.”
Meanwhile, Bayern manager Hansi Flick added: “Thiago played for Barcelona and seven years for Bayern Munich. He wants a new challenge which, in my opinion, should be the Premier League.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has claimed Liverpool don’t have a player like him and he’d ‘walk into their starting XI’.
“They (Liverpool) don’t have him (a player like him). On his day, he’s one of the top five midfielders in the world," Hargreaves told BT Sport.
"At the Bridge, we were blown away by him. As good as Liverpool are, he walks into their starting XI.
“I think everybody needs him. Man United, Arsenal, anybody would take him.
"He’s one of those players, if you played with him, you’d be blown away by how good he is. The only issue he’s had is injuries. He’s had big injuries at Bayern.”
