Leicester warned how Premier League title hopes revolve around just Jamie Vardy

Leicester's title charge depends on keeping Jamie Vardy fit, former Foxes winger Matt Piper has warned.

Brendan Rodgers' side eased past Leeds on Monday with a 4-1 win.

During the Elland Road clash, Vardy was involved in three goals – scoring one.

It was a fifth win in seven games for Leicester as they look to replicate their stunning 2016 exploits. Piper, however, reckons it's Vardy who still holds the key to success.

"Rodgers has bridged that gap with the top teams in the league – but the team is entirely set up around Vardy," he said.

"If he's not fit, I think Leicester are a team that finish 10th or 11th.

"The problem is Vardy is now 33 years old. He will get niggly injuries because of his pace and work rate.

"I'm surprised Rodgers didn't sign someone with a similar skill set this summer. It's a problem that could come back to haunt them and they might need to reconsider that decision in January."

Leicester already have selection woes.

Timothy Castagne is nursing a hamstring problem, Ricardo Pereira is recovering from a serious knee injury and centre-back Caglar Soyuncu is out for three months.

In Soyuncu's absence, 19-year-old summer signing Wesley Fofana has been thrust into the first-team.

Piper, who scored the last ever competitive goal at Filbert Street, believes the Frenchman is the real deal.

"Forfana has similar potential to Soyuncu and clearly fits the profile of footballer Rodgers likes to sign," he added.

"He's always after players under 25 with raw talent that they can develop at this level.

"Forfana has got great footballing intelligence and reads the game so well.

"Leicester have still got Wes Morgan, but he's a little older and is struggling with injuries, so Forfana will be the key man."
