As his Paris Saint-Germain contract continues to tick down, speculation linking Kylian Mbappe with a sensational move to Newcastle United has resurfaced. Mbappe is expected to leave PSG as a free agent at the end of the season, conveniently ahead of Newcastle’s first summer transfer window under new ownership.

Mbappe has been linked with a move away from PSG for months, with Real Madrid heavy suitors.

He grew disgruntled after the Ligue 1 giants rejected big-money approaches from Real in the summer.

But with his contract in the French capital up in around seven months, Florentino Perez is set to swoop in for his services.

Eddie Howe will be looking to make some statement signings at St. James’ Park, though, and French football legend Emmanuel Petit has suggested Mbappe could unbelievably be one of them.

Petit has claimed ‘anything can happen’ after Newcastle’s Saudi-backed takeover amid Mbappe’s desire to depart Paris.

He told “Anything can happen. We see what’s happened with Newcastle United – there have been rumours, and you never know what’s going to happen at the end of the day. Things can turn very easily and very quickly.

“I think he’s been frustrated and tired by the situation at PSG over the past year.

“We’ve seen some trouble on the pitch between players both at Paris Saint-Germain and the national team, which was reflective in his game and his mood.”

However, Petit has a suspicion he’s ready to leave PSG for Real Madrid, not Tyneside, to fulfil his childhood dream of representing Los Blancos.

“Maybe he’s interested in Real Madrid because he’s tired of what’s happening here in France,” Petit added.

“I think he gets the feeling sometimes that he doesn’t get the same recognition as players like [Lionel] Messi or Neymar.

“There is a big link with Real Madrid, and I know that in his mind when he was a child, he was dreaming of playing for clubs like this, because of the stars they have there and the history of the club.”

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Petit believes Mbappe has been PSG’s best player this season and has hailed the level at which he’s playing at his age.

“For me he’s been the best player at PSG since the beginning of the season and he still has a bit of time left on his contract,” Petit concluded.

“At the beginning of the season, he was being booed at every single stadium in France because of the stuff about what the press were saying.

“Yet from the first minute of the season he’s been their best player, he’s taken on that responsibility and shown real character. Honestly, what he’s doing at his age leaves me speechless.”
