Jules Kounde is reportedly furious after his move to Chelsea from Sevilla fell through during the final days of the transfer window and is refusing to speak to his Sevilla bosses.
Chelsea had tracked the French defender all summer and had reportedly agreed personal terms with Kounde weeks ahead of the transfer deadline.
However, with Sevilla holding out for his release clause to be met, the Champions League winners failed to secure their prime central defensive target before Tuesday's deadline.
This is understood to have left the 22-year-old former Bordeaux centre back furious with his club and he has not spoken with them while on international duty.
Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were both linked with Kounde this summer before Spurs opted to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta instead.
This left the Blues as Kounde's preferred suitors this summer and Chelsea reportedly submitted a bid worth £42.8million for his services.
However, Sevilla knocked back this approach in an attempt to secure a fee equal to his release clause, believed to be worth just under £70million.
Chelsea were not prepared to sign him at any cost and, therefore, failed to meet Sevilla's evaluation before the window closed on Tuesday night.
Would signing Jules Kounde have made Chelsea Premier League title favourites? Let us know in the comments section below.
This is believed to have left Kounde furious and reports suggest he has refused to answer the phone to Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui and director of football Monchi since.
He is currently on international duty with France and was sent off in their draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina on Wednesday night.
Monchi has discussed the deal this week, though, stating that "The first and only formal offer was last Wednesday, around five in the afternoon, with an amount that did not satisfy our desires, conditions, or quantities.
"I spoke to the player's agent some time ago because the more time that passes, the more difficult it would be for him to leave. We put as a deadline the 20th, and we extended that to the 25th.
"We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of last Friday night [the 27th] and they have not responded. Since then there has been no contact. Chelsea's formal offer, Sevilla's formal response, but nothing else."
Chelsea's delay in making their first concrete approach for Kounde can be attributed to their desire to solve Kurt Zouma's future at the club.
Zouma was, ultimately, sold to West Ham United for just under £30million with less than a week remaining in the window.
