Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent ‘alerts Napoli’ to Man Utd transfer interest

The agent representing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly informed the club that Manchester United have joined the race for his signature.

Koulibaly has formed a reputation as one of the best centre-backs in Europe recently following his superb performances in Serie A and the Champions League over the last few seasons.

With Napoli struggling financially, it is widely expected that he will leave this summer, but as of yet it is not thought any clubs have made a bid for the player.

The likes of Manchester City are said to be monitoring his situation carefully, but according to Italian outlet Il Mattino Koulibaly's agent Fali Ramadani has informed Napoli that City's bitter rivals United have also now declared their interest.

The Red Devils completed their first signing of the summer with the addition of attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek in a £40m move from Ajax on Wednesday.

But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also said to be prioritising signing a new centre-back to partner Harry Maguire before the start of the new season, and Koulibaly would certainly fit the bill.

Despite their lack of cash, however, Napoli appear determined to not let Koulibaly go on the cheap, and are holding out for a fee of at least £70m.

This is said to have frustrated the Senegalese international, who is worried he will be denied the opportunity to move on this summer by being priced out of a transfer.

With City having already splashed out £40m on Nathan Ake, it appears unlikely they will pay over the odds, meaning United may be considered the new favourites.

It remains to be seen whether they can reach an agreement with Napoli, but the prospect of Koulibaly in the Premier League is certainly an intriguing one given how much he has impressed of late.
