  • The club giants may take up option to buy Icardi when short-term deal expires

Juventus are reportedly hopeful of signing Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi this summer – but any deal may depend on PSG snapping up their current loanee on a permanent basis first.

The 27-year-old star, who is spending the season on loan in the French capital, has been the subject of long-standing interest from Inter’s title rivals.

However, due to Juventus’ reluctance to enter negotiations with the Serie A giants, the club could wait for PSG to recruit Icardi and then offer them two players in exchange.

According to La Gazetta dello Sport, Juventus may use Miralem Pjanic and Alex Sandro in order to entice PSG into a deal.

The same report states that the Turin club have long since wanted to swoop for Icardi, having also linked with the frontman last year.

But rather than relying on Inter to flesh out a fair asking price, Juventus instead hope to enter talks with the French champions.

Icardi could be snapped up on a permanent basis by PSG for a reported £57million at the end of the campaign, despite reports suggesting that the player is keen to return to Italy.

The Turin giants may also hand Alex Sandro to PSG in order to tempt them into selling Icardi

RMC Sport indicate that Icardi, having netted 20 goals in 31 games for PSG, was furious to have been sidelined for the club’s crunch Champions League clashes with Borussia Dortmund.

His displeasure with boss Thomas Tuchel’s decision may push him closer to a Juventus switch, and the star had also previously expressed his desire to move to the Old Lady.

However, it remains to be seen whether midfielder Pjanic and full back Sandro would be interested in the proposal.

Inter vice-president, Javier Zanetti, recently revealed that he believes Icardi’s time in Milan is over due to a falling out with Antonio Conte last summer.

The striker’s wife and agent, Wanda Nara, is said to have told PSG that they intend to return to Italy, but Zanetti does not see that as a possibility.

‘I don’t know, I don’t think so,’ Zanetti told ESPN

‘But right now we’re not talking about the transfer market, the most important thing is health. Then we’ll have time to think about it.’
