Chelsea hero Joe Cole was proven right about Christian Pulisic during tonight’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. Pulisic opened the scoring for Chelsea inside 15 minutes to give them a vital away goal in the first leg in Madrid. The USA international kept his composure, rounded goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and fired past two Real defenders on the line.
Chelsea could have taken the lead earlier, when Pulisic turned provider for Timo Werner only for the German to fluff a golden opportunity from close range.
Ahead of the match, Cole spoke in glowing terms about Pulisic, predicting him to have a huge future at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
Cole said on BT Sport: “I love Pulisic. Back end of last year he was Chelsea’s best player by a mile. He was driving with the ball.
“He looked like Eden Hazard. Had the No 10 on his back. Can go both ways. Score goals.

“Injuries have cost him and I felt a little chink in his armour with his mentality. A player of his quality shouldn’t go as long as he has without having an affect on the game.
“He’s a young man, in a new country. I think he’s going to be a massive player for Chelsea. He’s well liked and respected in the dressing room. And tonight’s the night to shine.
“He’s a marketing rise in America. He’s a god. But as a player he more than holds his own.”
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand added to Cole’s praise, saying there is no other player in the Chelsea side who can do what Pulisic can.

“He’s the one Chelsea player in the team today who can get it and drive past people with the ball,” Ferdinand said.
“Pace, ability to dribble and we’ve seen he can finish.
“At this level, having one of those players in your team, is going to be a game changer.”
Pulisic was asked about comparisons to former Chelsea star Hazard at a press conference on Monday but he insisted he does not base his game on any other player.
“He was an incredible player at this football club of course,” Pulisic said of Hazard. “I definitely looked up to [him].
“I am not comparing myself to him in any way or trying to be like him. I am my own player, doing my best for this club.
“Obviously he was a massive player for this club and obviously it is an honour to hear comparisons like that, but I still have a way to go.”
