Jimmy Greaves set to undergo more tests after being admitted to hospital

Jimmy Greaves goalscoring legend Jimmy Greaves will undergo further tests in hospital this weekend after being admitted on Wednesday.

The 80-year-old was taken in after one of the nurses who cares for him expressed concerns that his health was not what it usually is.

Greavsie, who scored 44 goals in 57 matches for England, suffered a massive stroke in May 2015 and has been unable to walk and talk since.

Son Andy said: “Dad is still in hospital, he’s still having tests but is comfortable.

“We would like to thank all the NHS staff for all the work they are doing with Dad at a time when we all know they’re under an incredible amount of pressure.

“The whole family would like to thank everyone for the kind wishes and thoughts they have been sending to Dad.

“We will provide you with an update on his condition as and when there is one.”

Greavsie’s agent, Terry Baker, said: “We have had 1000s of people enquiring after Jimmy and sending love. We thank you for that from the bottom of our hearts. It's still a case of no news is good news at the moment.

"Jimmy isn't a well man but he is in hospital receiving the best possible care thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses of the NHS at this difficult time for everyone.

"The love shown to Jim by so many 1000s of you is appreciated so much by the family and all of those close to him.”
