Gini Wijnaldum looks set to leave Liverpool for Barcelona in a cut-price £15million transfer.
The Dutchman is entering the final year of his Reds contract and negotiations over a new deal has seemingly stalled.
And new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants to take the midfielder to the Nou Camp ahead of the new season.
The Catalans had been hoping to land the former Newcastle man for around £10m, but Liverpool have not been willing to go that low.
The Premier League champions do not want to lose Wijnaldum for nothing but still want around £5m more than that.
Wijnaldum has played a big part in Liverpool’s recent success that has seen them win four trophies over the last year.
His crowning moment was his brace in the Reds’ sensational comeback win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final in 2019.
But with Jurgen Klopp keen to sign Bayern Munich's Thiago Alcantara, Wijnaldum may be the one who has to depart.
The Reds know they have to sell before they can buy, such is the financial situation amid the coronavirus pandemic, and Thiago will cost the club £30m.
Both Liverpool and Barcelona now think that a deal will be reached for Wijnaldum in the coming days.
The midfielder and Koeman know each other well from the Holland national team set-up, and the move could be a good fit.
Depsite speculation surrounding his future, Wijnaldum has still featured for Klopp’s men in pre-season.
He started last weekend's Community Shield defeat to Arsenal at Wembley, although he did not feature in the 7-2 friendly win over Blackpool on Saturday.
Wijnaldum moved to Anfield from the Magpies for £23m four years ago and has gone on to make 187 appearances for the club in all competitions.
