Four Arsenal stars set to follow Sead Kolasniac out as Mikel Arteta plots exodus

Arsenal left-back Sead Kolasinac is on the verge of sealing a loan move back to Schalke – which could signal the start of a mass January clear-out in north London.

Kolasinac, who joined the Gunners from Schalke in 2017, is set to re-sign for his former club on loan until the end of the season after falling out of favour under Mikel Arteta this term.

But the 27-year-old is unlikely to be the only Arsenal outcast moving elsewhere next month, as Arteta has hinted he will clear out more of the deadwood in his squad.

“We have a large squad, we knew that and a lot of things we wanted to do in the summer, we couldn’t accomplish for different reasons,” he said.

“There are some players that are going to go on loan, they are going to leave, and that’s the priority at the moment. We cannot sustain the numbers that we have in terms of substitutions.

“We are looking to do that and then we will see if we have the right opportunities in the positions that we need some more help. We are working with the club to find that.”

So which other players could follow Kolasinac out of The Emirates in January?

Mesut Ozil

After being left out of Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season, it is only a matter of time before Ozil calls time on his stay at Arsenal – with reports suggesting he could leave either on loan or for good next month.

The German ace, whose club-high £350,000-a-week deal comes to an end in six months’ time, has been linked with a loan switch to Juventus as well as a permanent move to Fenerbahce.

However, he could also begin negotiating a free transfer for next summer at the turn of the year under the Bosman ruling.

William Saliba (loan)

The 19-year-old centre-back returned to Arsenal in the summer after being loaned back to St-Etienne last season with high hopes of breaking into Arteta’s side.

But three months into the new campaign he is still yet to make his Gunners debut, meaning a January loan will surely be on the cards.

Dutch outfit PSV are said to be eyeing up a move for Saliba, although it is believed he wants to stay in the UK if he does leave next month.

Shkodran Mustafi

Mustafi has struggled for consistency since arriving at The Emirates in 2016, and Arteta’s mind appears to be made up on the error-prone defender, who has only made three Premier League appearances off the bench this season.

Despite his shaky form for Arsenal, though, Mustafi’s agent Emre Ozturk has claimed that Barcelona are interested in signing him.

If that proves true, the Gunners would probably be willing to drive him to Catalonia themselves.

Sokratis

Another outcast in north London, the Greek centre-half was also left out of Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads this term and is a banker to be moved on next month.

Reports suggest Fenerbahce have opened talks with Sokratis over a potential January transfer, while Napoli are also understood to be interested.
