Former head of recruitment at Arsenal Sven Mislintat gave Liverpool some vital advice on deadline day – ahead of the Reds splashing the cash on a new centre-back.
The German, known as Diamond Eye for his ability to spot talent, is good friends with Jurgen Klopp and was well placed to answer a pressing question.
Mislintat, who met Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, where he was chief scout, is the current sporting director of Stuttgart.
Leaning on Mislintat's knowledge of the Bundesliga, Klopp picked his compatriot's brain on Ozan Kabak, who Liverpool were very keen on signing on deadline day.
And it seems on Mislintat's recommendation, the Reds moved for the centre-back.
Mislintat told The Athletic: "I told Jurgen that he's a top lad.
"Top mentality, top character, top aggression. He's a [Dejan] Lovren-type player. Very good in the air, both defensively and in the opposition box."
Liverpool agreed to pay a £1million loan fee for Kabak, with a further £500,000 promised after a certain amount of appearances have been made.
The Reds also have the option to make the deal permanent for £18million at the end of the season, but are not obliged to do so.
Liverpool also completed the signing of Ben Davies on deadline day, snapping up the centre-back from Preston for just £1.6million. The players have been brought in to ease the pressure on Liverpool's injury-ravaged defence.
