Europa League qualification explained and how Chelsea vs Leicester impacts teams

The team that finishes seventh in the Premier League is set to qualify for a European competition next season with Chelsea and Leicester involved in Saturday's FA Cup final.

Both finalists are currently in the Prem top four with just two games to play and look destined for a spot in the Champions League next season.

Should they remain in the top five, it means the Premier League's seventh-placed team will qualify for the new Europa Conference League next season.

The teams in fifth and sixth will qualify for the Europa League, potentially exciting the likes of Everton and Arsenal.

Liverpool are currently in fifth, though they and sixth-placed West Ham still have three games to play.

Tottenham in seventh also have three matches remaining, as do the Toffees, but there remains plenty to play for this season.

By winning the FA Cup on Saturday, Chelsea or Leicester will secure themselves a place in the Europa League at least, though it seems their league position could earn them better rewards.

And Darren Bent believes Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel would rather win the FA Cup than finish in the top four.

He told talkSPORT: “For Thomas Tuchel, the FA Cup final because straight away it’s a bit of silverware and it’s a big bit of silverware.

“And they are also in the Champions League final. Get this bit of silverware out the way, go full strength, and if you get beaten by Leicester you’ve still got a great chance of getting in the top four.
