Erling Haaland will cost suitors £250m – despite only having £63m release clause

Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland could set potential suitors back £250m, despite the Norwegian’s £63m buy-out clause.

The imperious 21-year-old is the hottest property in European football having bagged an astonishing 76 goals in 79 appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

While Marco Rose’s side have not given up hope of retaining their prised asset, Haaland’s future appears to be away from the Signal Iduna Park.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and many more are expected to be involved in a transfer tug-of-war when his £63m buy-out clause becomes active in the summer.

However, the goalscoring sensation may not be the bargain he initially appears, as reports claim the striker’s overall package could cost up to £250m.

Reports from French outlet L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, have claimed prospective buyers will need to stump up as much as a quarter of a billion pounds to sign the striker.

While his £67m release clause is unmovable; a terrifying plethora of other costs further escalate his fee to stratospheric levels.

His agent Mino Raiola and his father Alfe-Inge Haaland will both need to be paid around £17m, while the striker’s wages are also estimated to cost up to £25m per year over the course six years.

Haaland’s quality and potential longevity are undoubted, yet the influx of hidden costs will likely scare away plenty of suitors.

However, despite their continued and prolonged struggle with crippling financial difficulties and La Liga salary cap regulations, Barcelona have entered the race to sign him again.

While ironically posing alongside new £55m signing Ferran Torres, the Catalans’ president Joan Laporta threw his club’s hat into the mix to sign the former RB Salzburg star.

"Everybody should get ready, as we are back as big players in the market,” Laporta said when asked about Haaland.

“All the top players want to come to Barca now, Ferran’s signing is evidence of that.

“We are building a new team with very young players. A new era is beginning which will be brilliant again.”
