Dejan Lovren responds to Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool "promise" amid slump in form

Dejan Lovren has offered his support to former Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah after he delivered a defiant message on social media.

The Croatian left the Reds in the summer after six years at Anfield.

He helped the Merseyside club with the Champions League and the Premier League, but their recent success hasn't carried over into this season.

Salah was on the score sheet at the weekend but it couldn't stop Liverpool from slumping to a third straight defeat at Leicester.

Jurgen Klopp has conceded the title having seen his side win just two of their last ten in the league.

Salah, who is the team's top scorer, is determined to turn things around however.

He said on Instagram : "It’s been a tough period for many reasons. We are champions and we will fight like champions, until the very end.

"We will not allow this season to be defined by the recent results we’ve had. That is my promise to all of you."

Lovren, who now plays for Russian side Zenit, simply replied by saying: "Brother, you know".

The Reds have a chance to respond this week when they face RB Leipzig in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Puskas Arena in Budapest will host the game due to travel restrictions in Germany.

But Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has endured his own struggles this term, is glad to be back on the pitch so soon.

He told the club's official website: "In situations like this you want the opportunity to put it right as soon as possible.

"Different competition, which always freshens it up, different mentality going into it. It’s going to be a different task for us, a Champions League night.

"It’s always nice to play in that so it’s exciting to have the prospect of a knockout game of football again.

"You wait so long for the knockout rounds of the Champions League – it’s always exciting, it fills you with that excitement, so it’ll be good."
