Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, according to reports.
The Blues bolstered their ranks with the additions of Romelu Lukaku and Saul Niguez in the summer transfer window as Thomas Tuchel attempts to build on last season’s Champions League win.
Those incomings were in part funded by the sales of Tammy Abraham, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, Davide Zappacosta and Olivier Giroud.
But while Tuchel may currently be happy with his squad, a club of Chelsea’s stature are always looking for potential additions.
One of those the Blues are keeping an eye on is former Manchester City forward Sane, withThe Expressreporting that Tuchel is a fan of the German international.
Sane has not really kicked on at Bayern following his £54.8million transfer from Manchester City in July 2020.
The 25-year-old wideman contributed a reasonable six goals and nine assists in 32 Bundesliga games last campaign and has one assist in three league matches so far this campaign.
Yet all is not well behind the scenes. The Athleticreported recently that Sane is ‘frustrated with himself’ and is ‘struggling to understand his relative lack of impact’ at Bayern.
The report states that former Bayern boss Hansi Flick fell out with sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, in part because he favoured the signing of Timo Werner instead of Sane.

Werner, of course, ended up joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig last summer, while Salihamidzic got his man, signing Sane from Man City.
Sane’s current situation could therefore open the door for Chelsea, although both Arsenal and Tottenham have also been credited with interest in the winger.
Bayern have previously shown an interest in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and the Blues blocked a loan move to rivals Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window because they couldn’t find a replacement.

Yet, with Hudson-Odoi struggling for game time in a hugely competitive squad in west London, the potential for a swap deal to Bayern Munich for Sane has been mooted.
Ultimately, with the transfer window now shut, Chelsea will have to bide their time and keep a watchful eye on Sane’s progress under Julian Nagelsmann this season.
If the German winger is still unsettled in January – and Chelsea have the need for him – then the club may just step up their pursuit.
