Chelsea ‘to submit formal Kounde bid today’ with personal terms agreed weeks ago

Chelsea will reportedly submit a formal bid to Sevilla today for French centre back Jules Kounde today after agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old weeks ago.

The Blues have been interested in a move for Kounde all summer and are understood to now be ready to make a concrete proposal with Kurt Zouma's future set to be resolved.

Zouma is close to agreeing personal terms with West Ham United ahead of a £25million across London that will give Thomas Tuchel's side the green light to progress with their Kounde pursuit.

Chelsea will hope to have Kounde signed in time to be available for Saturday's clash with Liverpool.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are prepared to submit an official bid for Kounde today, with personal terms agreed weeks ago.

The Blues will procced with the transfer once Zouma's transfer to West Ham is completed, with Romano reporting that final details on personal terms are all that is left to agree on.

Chelsea had hoped that Zouma's situation would be finalised earlier in the summer after accepting a bid from West Ham, but the Frenchman originally turned down the terms offered to him by the Hammers.

Having not featured in either of the club's first two league games of the season, however, talks are now progressing between the player and the club.

At one point this summer, Chelsea were considering including Zouma in a player plus cash bid for Kounde but are now set to offer just cash.

The Blues have been linked with the former Bordeaux man all summer and had faced competition from Tottenham Hotspur before they signed Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

Kounde played 49 times for Sevilla last season, including as a second half substitute in their 4-0 home defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.

Chelsea have not been put off by the release clause in Kounde's contract, which has increased from £68million to £77million in recent weeks, as they do not believe they will be required to meet this fee to sign him.

Tuchel reportedly also wants to sign a new midfielder once the transfer window slam shuts on August 31, with Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez the primary target.

It was reported on Tuesday that the club had submitted a loan offer for the 26-year-old Spaniard with an option to buy, but they will face competition from Manchester United for his signature.
