Chelsea ‘rival Man Utd and Liverpool’ for £78m Jadon Sancho

Chelsea have entered the race for Jadon Sancho following the news that Borussia Dortmund have dropped their asking price for the England international.

Reports of the 21-year-old’s £78 million price tag has alerted the Blues, who could pip Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool to his signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to be a fan of Sancho, but was left red-faced after his public efforts to sign the former Manchester City player ended in embarrassment last summer.

Meanwhile, the Reds see him as potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, should the Egyptian international push for a move in the coming months with contract talks stalling.

However, according to Bild, Chelsea have emerged as frontrunners to sign Sancho, with Thomas Tuchel happy to raid his former club to get his man at a cut price.

Sancho is thought to have a verbal agreement with Dortmund whereby he will be allowed to leave if a reasonable offer is put on the table.

Moreover, with coronavirus having strained the club’s finances, the German side have slashed the £100m figure they set for Sancho last year, bringing Chelsea into the fold.

If the club sign Sancho, it could mean they pull out of the race to sign his Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, opting for a cheaper option such as former player Romelu Lukaku, who could be available for £105m.

Tuchel boss never managed Sancho during his time at Dortmund, leaving just months before the winger’s arrival.

In that time, Sancho has notched up 133 appearances for the German side, scoring 46 times, earning him three Bundesliga player of the months awards and a place in the league’s 2018-19 team of the season.

Despite his squad’s strength in depth out wide, with options such as Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic, Tuchel is known to be keen to bolster his attacking options.
