Chelsea ready to sell Abraham this summer with star available for less than £40m

Chelsea could call an end to Tammy Abraham’s 17-year association with the club following reports they're ready to cash in on the forward this summer.

Abraham, 23, has scored 12 goals in all competitions this term and was a frequent starter under Frank Lampard. However, his chances have dried up since Thomas Tuchel was appointed manager in January, making just four starts under the German.

ESPN reported Chelsea would be willing to sell their academy graduate for £40 million. West Ham United, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are said to be among his admirers, though they're hopeful of dealing for a smaller fee.

Timo Werner’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has intensified competition among Chelsea’s forwards this season, and Tuchel has persevered with his compatriot despite some wasteful performances.

It doesn’t help Abraham’s plight that the Blues are also said to be in the market for another frontman this summer. Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and Sergio Aguero—soon to be out of contract at Manchester City—are believed to be among their targets.

Abraham has a history with Villa after helping the club gain promotion from the Championship in 2018/19, when he scored a joint-career-best 26 goals in all competitions.

A transfer to West Ham would make for an easy transition given Abraham is already based in London, and the Hammers are still hoping to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

An ankle injury meant the Camberwell native was recently sidelined for five consecutive Premier League fixtures, but Tuchel has appeared reluctant to use the forward even when fully fit.

The Blues are believed to be considering a sale at the end of this term while his value is still high, with seemingly little room for the player in Tuchel’s plans moving forward.
