Manchester United could be in line for a shock boost in their battle to bring Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford. The Bundesliga giants rejected United’s advances for the England international last summer despite the former Manchester City winger hinting at a return to Premier League football.
However, with incoming Dortmund head coach Marco Rose potentially needing to sell before he can buy players, there could be an opening for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
As per reports from Eurosport, Dortmund’s growing interest in Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, could mean they are forced to sell Sancho to fund a bid for the 20-year-old.
Hudson-Odoi was targeted by fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich at the start of the 2019/20 season but Chelsea fended off their interest at the time.
Former Blues boss Frank Lampard reacted by tying the midfielder to a £120,000 per week five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
At that point, he looked set to play a key role in Lampard’s team after gaining rave reviews at youth level for both Chelsea and England.

However, despite showing some flashes of potential across the last two seasons, he made just 10 Premier League starts in 2020/21, under both Lampard and new manager Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel has opted for either Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta in a wing-back role during his time in charge with Hudson-Odoi reduced to an impact substitute role in recent months.
Chelsea’s openness to sell or loan Hudson-Odoi for the 2021/22 campaign would be on the premise of Dortmund covering the majority of his wages for the remainder of the contract.
That financial obligation could twist Rose’s hand over Sancho with United primed to pile on the pressure with a summer bid.

Sancho remains as United’s No 1 transfer target in the coming weeks but Solskjaer is aware of interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool in the 21-year-old.
The Camberwell-born attacker has enjoyed a fantastic spell in Germany following his 2017 exit from City.
He has netted 50 goals in 136 appearances in the last four seasons at Signal Iduna Park and secured his first major title with success in the 2021 DFB-Pokal Cup.
The former City star turned in an outstanding perofrmance in their 4-1 final victory with two first-half goals against RB Leipzig.
Star man Erling Haaland netted the other two goals as former manager Edin Terzic’s secured the club’s first cup win since 2017.
If Dortmund do opt to sell him this summer United are likely to be quoted less than their 2020 valuation of £120m.
That figure was rumoured to be too high for the United board as they refused to break the £100m mark over a move.
With two years left on his current Dortmund contract, the Red Devils could secure a deal for around £90m.
That would set a new transfer record for United and break the £89m price they paid Juventus to bring Paul Pogba back to the club in 2016.
