Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was unhappy after his side’s emphatic defeat to West Brom on Saturday. The Blues were dire in the showdown at Stamford Bridge, conceding five times on a shocking afternoon of Premier League football. And the result means their hopes of finishing in the top four now hang in the balance.

Chelsea went into the game against West Brom having not lost under Tuchel.

But that record came to an end at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Sam Allardyce’s side springing a major surprise in west London.

Chelsea went ahead through Christian Pulisic but, following the dismissal of Thiago Silva, the game changed.

Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson scored braces for the visitors, with Mbaye Diagne also on target.

So Express Sport will now take a look at three Chelsea players who need dropping in the aftermath of the result.

Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva will be available for Chelsea’s match against Porto in midweek, despite his red card against West Brom.

Yet the Blues can’t rely on the Brazil international.

Silva was undoubtedly world-class during his prime but the Samba star hasn’t looked the same player throughout his time in the capital.

His lack of pace is evident and that makes him a weak link at the back for Chelsea.

The Blues are already looking for replacements for the former PSG captain, with Bayern Munich pair David Alaba and Niklas Sule under consideration.

It was a terrible day at the office for Jorginho, too.

There’s no denying that, on his day, the Chelsea midfielder can have his uses – something they knew when they spent £50million for him in 2019.

But Jorginho is too slow and lacks the energy required to be one of the best midfielders on the planet.

N’bolo Kante, when fully fit, should dislodged the Italy international from Tuchel’s side.

And with Mateo Kovacic impressing throughout the majority of the season, Jorginho may be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Timo Werner

Chelsea may have signed another Fernando Torres, Alvaro Morata and Andriy Shevchenko in Timo Werner.

The Germany international has failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge ever since his blockbuster move from RB Leipzig back in the summer.

And Werner failed to register a single shot on target as the Baggies caused a major upset.

Chelsea look far better when either Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud leads the line.

And Werner clearly has a big fight on his hands if he’s to become the success Chelsea thought he would be upon bringing the forward to the Premier League last summer.

Tuchel speaks out

Chelsea boss Tuchel spoke out after his side’s defeat to West Brom, urging his side to learn from the game.

“After the red card we were not able to cope with the situation,” he told BT Sport.

“I don’t know why but it was like this. We gave away very easy goals just before half-time. But in the second half, what could go wrong went wrong and we have to accept a big loss today.

“Hopefully it’s a big-wake up call for all of us, me included. We will get the right response because this is sport and this is absolutely necessary.

“First of all, it’s important we digest it, because it’s a lot to digest. I did not see it coming. Now we have to take our responsibilities – me included – and shake it off and continue tomorrow.”
