Aubameyang warned against Arsenal exit for Real Madrid or Barcelona

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been warned the grass is not always greener as the Gabonese striker continues to be linked with an exit from Arsenal.

Gunners hitman Aubameyang is out of contract at the Emirates next summer with the Londoners staring down the barrel of another campaign without Champions League football.

Barcelona are long-term admirers of the former Borussia Dortmund forward and failed in their attempts to lure him to the Nou Camp in January.

The Catalan giants had been expected to renew their pursuit in the summer before the coronavirus crisis brought a halt to football across the globe.

Barca have now been joined by Clasico rivals Real Madrid in the hunt for Aubameyang, 30, who has scored 61 goals in 97 games for Arsenal since joining in January 2018.

But former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has warned the raft of attacking talent at both Barca and Real could see Aubameyang struggle to replicate the main-man status he has at the Gunners.

Berbatov told Betfair: "Barcelona and Real Madrid are the favourites to sign him and as a play in that situation your head is going to spin.

"Aubameyang needs to calculate his options to see if he’s going to benefit and be happy moving to these types of teams.

"From his perspective, either of them is a good move because they are two of the best teams in the world, but then you have to look at their line-ups, which include Messi, Suarez, Griezmann, Dembele, Fati, Benzema, Bale, Hazard.

"Would Aubameyang play much in either of those squads? He’s not getting any younger, he needs to be at a club where he is going to play and at Arsenal he is the captain. But the biggest factor in all of this is winning trophies.
