Mikel Arteta has already achieved his main goals in the summer after his double transfer swoop.

Arsenal are wasting no time in the current window after snapping up two players with more on the way.

Nuno Tavares was signed from Benfica early on in a deal worth around £9m as he looks to bolster his squad.

And on Monday, Albert Sangi Lokonga was confirmed for near £15m from Anderlecht with midfield an area Arteta has been desperate to bring reinforcements in for.

With plenty of departures planned, it was important to sign new players but age was also a major factor in the Arsenal coach's decision.

Both Tavares and Lokonga are 21, vital to Arteta's plans as he looks to lower the overall squad age – with similar deals on the way.

According to Goal, by landing the pair, the Spaniard has achieved his main goal in the transfer window.

Arsenal are on the brink of announcing a deal for Ben White, further lowering the age of the squad.

Tavares is set to replace Sead Kolasinac, who turned 28 in June, while Granit Xhaka, 29 this September, looks set to join AS Roma and will have his spot taken up by Lokonga.

After the departure of David Luiz in the summer after his contract expired, a centre-back has been an important part of Arsenal's summer plans.

And with the arrival of White on the horizon from Brighton for a fee of around £50m, Arteta has landed his top target.

But Arsenal do not plan on stopping there and have a plan to sign long-term target Houssem Aouar.

Lyon are prepared to halve their asking price from last summer and sell the midfielder for £25m.

However, the Gunners face a battle to land the Frenchman with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham all interested in the 23-year-old.

A move for Martin Odegaard has not been completely abandoned either, with Real Madrid looking to offload their fringe players to lower their wage bill.
