Arsenal chief Edu is willing to sell up to seven players this summer to fund new signings, according to reports. Arsenal are set for a mid-table finish in the Premier League and failed to reach the latter stages of both domestic cup competitions.

Mikel Arteta will lead the Gunners in the Europa League semi-final against Villarreal, with the first leg in Spain on Thursday.

Winning the tournament is Arsenal’s biggest hope of participating in European competition next season.

Arteta made several additions to his squad last summer, bringing in Thomas Partey, Willian and Gabriel.

However, clear improvement is needed this summer for the Spaniard to take the club back to where he feels they belong.

Football.london claim at least four players will be sold in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the report lists seven who could end up leaving the club on a permanent basis.

Academy graduates Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah could both exit the Emirates.

Maitland-Niles has spent the second half of this season on loan at West Brom, and Nketiah has struggled for game time in recent months under Arteta.

Right-back Hector Bellerin will be allowed to leave if the right deal can be found.

Four other players who are currently out on loan are also set to move on.

Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Sead Kolasinac are all set to leave on permanent deals.

Konstantinos Mavropanos, who is on loan at Stuttgart, will go either on loan again or depart on a permanent deal.

David Luiz is also likely to leave at the end of his contract this summer.

Arteta and technical director Edu want to raise funds to strengthen at least three positions.

Martin Odegaard, currently on loan from Real Madrid, is the top target in the search for a No 10.

Arteta also wants to bolster his options behind Kieran Tierney at left-back.

Right-back is another area which will be targeted, with Bellerin, Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers all failing to make that position their own this season.

Arsenal chief executive Vinai Venkatesham recently revealed the financial troubles the club have faced since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, outlining how key it is to raise funds through sales before making new signings.

“I will say for the record KSE have refinanced our stadium debt to effectively £200m,” Venkatesham said at a Fans’ Forum last week.

“We’re going to lose well over £100million this year and it’s KSE standing behind that.

“Whatever we do in this transfer window it’s KSE standing behind that.”
