Paul Merson has tipped Liverpool's Sadio Mane to win the Player of the Year award – but prefers to watch another Premier League star in action.
Mane has been one of the key figures in a Liverpool side which has romped to verge of a first domestic title in 30 years.
The Senegalese forward has chipped in with 14 goals in the league so far this season, as well as providing seven assists.
Though despite his admiration for Mane, Merson has also been impressed with Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who has performed superbly in the face of a relegation battle.
Merson told Sky Sports : "If you’re asking me which player I want to watch the most in the Premier League, it’s Jack Grealish.
"But he isn’t getting player of the year. It’s different.
"It’s got to be Sadio Mane for me. Mane is the player who has been Liverpool’s go-to man at special times in the season.
"He’s performed and got big goals in big games. He’s the one for me."
Mane's importance to Liverpool was highlighted in the 5-2 hammering of rivals Everton earlier this season, which was later followed up by a late winner at Norwich.
Grealish has been operating at the other end of the table, but has still racked up a respectable seven goals and six assists this campaign, contributing to a third of all of Villa's goals.
He is unlikely to pip a Liverpool player to the award though, given how dominant they have been this season.
