Arsenal’s renewed hope of signing Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic have suffered a further set-back. Mikel Arteta’s side have been courting the 21-year-old sensation who has scored 16 Serie A goals in 20 appearances for La Viola.
The Serbian striker is currently steamrolling the Serie A goalscoring charts, becoming one of the most sought-after strikers in the world.
And Arsenal have been doing everything they can to jostle their way to the front of the queue, ahead of the likes of Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and most recently, Real Madrid.
The Gunners were even afforded fresh hope of signing Vlahovic, after reports suggested Fiorentina are close to signing Hertha Berlin striker Krzysztof Piatek on loan.
However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Polish hitman’s imminent arrival does not mean Vlahovic will be sold in January.

“Fiorentina sources clarify Krzysztof Piatek is not considered Dusan Vlahović replacement for this window,” Romano tweeted.
“Piatek will join on loan with buy option from Hertha – not permanent move. Medical tomorrow.
“Vlahović situation still quiet for January, as of now.”
While Vlahovic’s future appears to be away from Fiorentina, the Serbian has regularly stated his desire to finish the season with Vincenzo Italiano’s side.

“I have stated this several times so far. A beautiful football story is being made here in Florence,” Vlahovic said to Politika (via Express).
“We have a good team, great football players, great support from the fans. It all deserves respect. Only God knows what will happen in the next period.
“My wish is to bring Fiorentina to Europe, because we have not been in Europe for a long time. I don’t know what can happen overnight. We’ll see.”
Further reports from Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Arsenal made a huge £46m offer plus Lucas Torreira to ‘immediately’ sign the striker in January.
Torreira has become a key player for La Viola having made 16 league appearances while on loan with the Serie A giants this season.

He is expected to join the club permanently at the end of the season, but the Gunners could use him as bait to wrap up a move for Vlahovic.
Transfermarkt value Vlahovic at around £63m, but his transfer value could plummet in the summer when he enters the final year of his contract.
However, Arsenal may find it difficult to convince the Serbian to seek pastures new at the Gunners, as Gianluca di Marzio believes his agents are not convinced by the prospect of moving to the Gunners.
“Arsenal, for example, his agents do not want to speak to them. They think Arsenal is not enough for him and his career,” Di Marzio said to Sky Italia.
Arteta’s side are currently fourth in the Premier League, and will qualify for the Champions League if they are able to solidify their position in the top four.
