Despite leaving Old Trafford almost eight years ago, it’s hard to imagine a Manchester United side without Sir Alex Ferguson’s influence.
The current Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played under Fergie, and the Scot is still a regular at United games.
United midfielder Fred has spoken about Ferguson’s impact on the team and it’s clear the legendary manager’s views are still highly thought of.
It’s rare that Ferguson speaks out on the current goings on at United, allowing Solskjaer to lead the Red Devils into second place in the Premier League.
But Daily Star Sport have collated Ferguson’s previous views on a number of current Old Trafford stars…
On David de Gea
"Eric Steele had been scouting David de Gea for quite a while, but then Neuer came on the scene at Schalke. And I think Schalke would've been happy if we'd have gone and taken him.
"So my problem was Eric, because he was adamant that we must take De Gea. I said 'but Eric, the boy Neuer is the complete unit; he's mature, his physique is unbelievable', and he says 'yeah, but in three years' time, De Gea will be better'.
"I said ‘that’s a statement’.
"Eric and I went out to watch him (De Gea) against Valencia away, and the things he'd been speaking about – his agility, his confidence, his speed – were evident.
"And Eric had been building a relationship with his parents, and was so adamant, that I had to trust him – and I'm glad I did, because he was right."
On Brandon Williams
When discussing giving youth an opportunity at United, Ferguson said: "And you find that giving them an opportunity, they don’t let you down and they’ve shown that.
"The boy Brandon Williams and Greenwood and McTominay – they’ve done exceptionally well."
On Luke Shaw
"The signing of Shaw was the one we tried to get when he was 16 years of age. They wouldn't sell him to us but they always said we'd be first to know if they ever did.
"Of course, Ed Woodward has carried that through and we got him for, I think it was £30m. He's a talented boy, a good footballer who likes to get forward all the time."

On Harry Maguire
Though not something to the press, Ferguson is quoted as saying the below when United were linked with Maguire.
"They should take the lad in the boardroom and not let him out until he's signed!"
On Mason Greenwood
Short and sweet from Fergie on the young forward: ”I think we have found one."
On Marcus Rashford
"Rashford is an example of what I think is Manchester United.
"They are the one club in England who will always identify a Rashford and give a young kid a chance – there is no better club in England at giving young kids a chance.
"Rashford is a sensation and one of the best in years."
On Paul Pogba
"The boy has great talent and tremendous physique for an 18 year old," Ferguson said before Pogba signed for Juventus.
"You can't believe it. We are negotiating his contract at the moment. It is a bit complicated at the moment because he has changed his agent a couple of times. But the boy wants to stay, that is obvious. Hopefully we can get it done soon."
And here's what he said after.
"Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we’re aware.
"It’s a bit disappointing because I don’t think he showed us any respect at all. To be honest, if they carry on that way, I’m quite happy that he’s away, from me, anyway."
Man Utd to be impacted by Man City's Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish transfer dilemma
On Scott McTominay
"Scott was a wee bit like David Beckham. When he joined us, he was just a wee small lad and then, all of a sudden, whoosh, he just shot up.
“David didn’t even get into our youth team the year we won the FA Youth Cup until the semi-final.
“It’s a growing thing. Paul Scholes was just a small lad, but he sprouted up to 5ft 8in, the height he is now. Scott was a skelf of a boy, then he sprouted when he became an apprentice.
“In fact, he was playing centre-forward for the youth team. They lost Ashley Fletcher to West Ham and Marcus Rashford wasn’t getting into the team at the time because he was also growing.
"So they played McTominay at centre-forward quite a lot, but he obviously developed into a midfield player. It’s possible he grew ten inches in a year."

On Daniel James
No direct quote but around the time United were trying to sign the winger, a source told Football Insider: "Sir Alex is a massive admirer of Dan James and convinced he is destined for big things.
"He would never say that publicly and put too much pressure on him but he has been impressed by the kid.
"He doesn’t get too involved in our recruitment but he’s certainly excited by the signing of Dan James."
On Anthony Martial
Not much on Martial but Fergie was asked if his price tag was ridiculous following the Frenchman’s £50m arrival at Old Trafford.
"Ridiculous?" rebuffed Ferguson. "Not at the moment it's not!"
