Toby Alderweireld claims Tottenham’s new boss Ryan Mason is already reminding his players of Mauricio Pochettino.
Mason is the youngest manager in Premier League history after being put in charge following the sacking of Jose Mourinho on Monday.
Mourinho’s relentless criticism of his players divided the Spurs dressing room so much that Daniel Levy, just six days ahead of the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, felt that the club’s best chance of winning their first silverware in 13 years was without his dream trophy-magnet appointment and with a 29-year-old with no managerial experience.

The squad were told the news of Mourinho’s sacking just minutes before the story broke. It happened so quickly, says Alderweireld, that he wasn’t able to say his goodbyes.
‘It was a strange week,’ said the Belgian. ‘It was the same surprise for us as for everyone else.
‘We went straight for training so we didn’t really have a moment to chat. I’m sure that will come. A lot of respect, even a thank you.’
And Alderweireld said there are similarities between Mason and the former Tottenham boss
Under Mason, the early signs are positive. ‘It’s going wonderfully,’ Alderweireld added.
‘He is a big personality. He’s very mature. There’s a lot of respect and everyone agrees with how he wants to play football.
‘He has a lot of ideas from Pochettino and we only can agree that’s very good. You can see the similarities — how he wants to train. It feels very familiar.’
