Alan Shearer and Ian Wright in agreement on Premier League’s greatest goal

Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have agreed on the greatest Premier League goal of all-time, which trumped wonder strikes by Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney.

The pundits ranked their favourite goals from the top-flight on Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast, but also included a few FA Cup belters.

Among the contenders were Henry's flick and volley against Man Utd in 2000, and Rooney's thumping volley vs Newcastle in 2005.

Paolo di Canio's scissor volley for West Ham was also in contention, along with Trevor Sinclair's outrageous overhead kick for QPR.

But both Shearer and Wright crowned Dennis Bergkamp's wonder goal for Arsenal against Newcastle top of the pile.

The Dutchman produced an exquisite piece of skill to turn Nikos Dabizas before shrugging off his marker and sliding the ball past Shay Given to score.

His physics-defying effort led many to question whether the forward had meant what he had just done, but Shearer and Wright were in no doubt.

Shearer said: "No-one has ever scored a goal like that and I don't think anyone will ever score it again. He absolutely meant it, the touch, the technique and the finish was exceptional."

Wright added: "The pass was behind him and he has to improvise, and because he was such a great technician, he scored one of the greatest goals I have ever seen. If he had a bad touch in training, everybody noticed, because he was so good."

Di Canio and Sinclair were the only other players to make the top five for both pundits.

Both players actually combined for di Canio's goal against Wimbledon, which Wright voted in for the "audacity" of the strike.

They also agreed that Sinclair's display of athleticism vs Barnsley for QPR was "the best overhead kick they'd ever seen".

Newcastle seemed to be on the receiving end of several top goals, including Luis Suarez's chest and finish, and Matt Le Tissier's superb solo effort making a top five for separate pundits.

Among the other contenders were Ryan Giggs' mazy run vs Arsenal, Jack Wilshere's team goal against Norwich, and Vincent Kompany's title decider last season – though there was no sign of Paul Scholes' thumping Aston Villa volley.

Here's how Shearer and Wright ranked their top 10s.
