F1’s greatest champions and biggest shocks relived in Sky documentary series

Strap yourselves in Formula One fans; the greatest races, the biggest shocks and all the thrills and spills over the past 70 years will be relived in an exclusive documentary series.

'Race to Perfection' airs on Sky this Saturday, with a seven-part docuseries celebrating the finest drivers and the sport's biggest stories through unseen footage and exclusive interviews.

From Ayrton Senna to Michael Schumacher, Stirling Moss to Lewis Hamilton, the biggest global superstars in motorsport have graced the F1 racetrack over seven decades.

And to mark the sport's 70th anniversary, fans will be given an insight into what makes these stars tick, sharing their biggest achievements and setbacks – like you've never seen before.

Hamilton will feature frequently, as expected, with the Briton widely regarded as one of the finest drivers of his generation.

But before the six-time world champ arrived on the scene with one of the greatest-ever seasons from a rookie in 2007, a long list of drivers kept fans on the edge of their seats with thrilling drives and controversial decisions.

The documentary will also celebrate the great F1 teams including Ferrari, who this weekend will take part in their 1,000th F1 race at the Tuscan Grand Prix.

Triumph and tragedy will also feature prominently, as will F1's trailblazers, while never-to-be-forgotten incidents will be discussed by the drivers themselves in exclusive interviews.

Scott Young, Director of Sky Sports F1, said: “Formula 1 is an iconic sport with rich history, ever-changing as technology has rapidly developed over the last seven decades.

“It’s a time to remember the storylines and glory of the past but also look ahead to the future.

"Our partnership with F1 over the next five years will give customers exclusive access as that captivating story continues to unfold.”

Ian Holmes, Director of Media Rights Formula 1 said: “We are incredibly excited to be partnering with Sky and creating an exclusive docuseries which showcases the sport across the ages and celebrates our rich heritage in motorsport.

"It’s exciting to see some of our oldest footage brought back to life though the docuseries and give fans a real insight into the history of F1 to mark our 70th anniversary.”

Race to Perfection, a Sky original, will premier at 9pm on Sky Documentaries and will be available on demand for all Sky and NOW TV customers
