Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler will not be making his next start due to an injury on the nail of his right middle finger, which he suffered while putting on pants.
"You can't make this stuff up," Phillies manager Joe Girardi told reporters Thursday.
"It's very sore," he added.
The Phillies had Wheeler lined up to start Saturday against the Miami Marlins, but won't pitch until Monday at the earliest, per Girardi.
Wheeler has rewarded the Phillies' five-year, $118 million offseason investment in him by posting a 2.47 ERA through his first eight starts with the team. He is 4-0 with 36 strikeouts and two home runs allowed over 51 innings.
