No. 4 Ohio State can put an end to any skepticism about its College Football Playoff merits with a resounding win over No. 14 Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship.
The Buckeyes (5-0) have been the focus of the college football world for holding onto the fourth and final position in the Playoff despite having played just two games in the last five weeks. The Big Ten had to amend its policy requiring teams to play at least six games in order to qualify for the title game, helping to ensure the conference would have a better chance at securing a playoff berth should Ohio State win on Saturday.
It’ll be far from easy for the Buckeyes, who must face a stout defense that ranks second in the FBS, limiting opponents to just 14.6 points per game. Pat Fitzgerald’s Wildcats (6-1) have just a lone slip-up to Michigan State this season and will be playing in their second Big Ten Championship in the last three years.
Ohio State is led by Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Justin Fields. Fields has passed for 1,407 yards and rushed for an additional 239 behind what is arguably the best offensive line in the league. He has the Big Ten’s most fearsome pass-catching duo, as well, in the form of Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave who rank No. 1 and 2 respectively in the conference for receiving yards.
