Cardinals vs. Cowboys features two teams trending in very different directions. While Arizona is 10-5 on the year with a playoff spot clinched, three straight losses to the Rams, Lions, and Colts are throwing up a lot of red flags about the team. The Rams have surpassed the Cardinals in the NFC West, and the Cardinals appear to have a lot to figure out offensively when DeAndre Hopkins isn’t on the field.
On the other side, you have the Dallas Cowboys, who looked like a juggernaut all throughout December. They went 4-0 with a point differential of +74, with a 56-14 win over the Washington Football Team last week helping that number along. Dak Prescott completed 67 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and three picks in that span, and he is looking as good as advertised for the Cowboys in recent weeks. His plethora of weapons hasn’t hurt his cause, with Amari Cooper looking like a steady, consistent target and CeeDee Lamb looking like an explosive threat.
The Cardinals, however, have plenty of fight left. With the Rams facing two tough opponents to end their season and Arizona holding the tiebreaker, they have a very real shot at clawing their way back into the West’s No. 1 spot. However, it will involve a lot of work and a little luck. Against a team playing as well as Dallas is playing – they have No. 1 seed aspirations if the Packers drop one of their last two – the Cardinals will have to recalibrate after their last three losses to pull themselves out of this nosedive and head into the playoffs with momentum.
Bizarrely, playing on the road may end up being a boon for the Cardinals. They’re 7-1 on the season, so perhaps the idea is to avoid State Farm Stadium in the postseason. The Cardinals are no strangers to late-season struggles, and a game against the Cowboys certainly isn’t the medicine they need. But inversely, a win would be a gigantic step forward for a team looking to find some consistency throughout the season.
