‘St Kilda schoolgirl’ shares heartbreaking update

The woman known as the “St Kilda schoolgirl” – involved in one of the biggest controversies to ever rock the AFL – has given an update after being dealt a devastating health blow earlier this month.

Kimberley Ametoglou, formerly Kim Duthie, revealed on February 2 that after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer last year, an unrelated tumour had been discovered while she underwent a hysterectomy.

The now-27-year-old first entered the public eye 10 years ago, when at the age of 17 sports agent Ricky Nixon started an inappropriate relationship with her.

Ms Ametoglou posted semi-nude photos of Nixon in a Melbourne hotel room in 2010, triggering a massive scandal at the St Kilda Football Club that saw Nixon scramble to London, losing his accreditation to the AFL Players’ Association.

The mother-of-one has remained upbeat since the devastating double blow to her health, posting images of her latest hospital stay to Instagram.

“Real and raw effects of cancer – I’m brave – but to be honest I’m still so scared and that’s okay not to be okay sometimes,” she said in a message to her 63,000 followers.

“I’m just a bit emotional at the moment so sorry about that but I just wanted to share my journey.

“I am so grateful for all your support, it gives me strength and hope. You all make me feel like a warrior.”

On Tuesday, she posted a shot from her “third hospital for the week”.

“Thank you for all your endless support for my journey I am battling,” she wrote alongside the image.

“Staying positive despite my whole vein just being blown … meaning they can no longer use that arm for treatment anymore … it’s painful and bad luck – but it’s okay.”

Ms Ametoglou previously said she’s “doing really well mentally and I’ve found really good coping mechanisms to deal with my cancer”.

Ms Ametoglou revealed earlier this year that she would finally be able to tell her side of the story about her involvement in the 2010 scandal, as the nondisclosure agreements she signed had finally lapsed.

“Finally speaking my truth,” she said.

“This is one of the most challenging things I have ever done, reminiscing on past traumas and a time in my life that I was at absolute rock bottom.

“NDA contracts have finally expired now it’s 2021 and it’s my chance to finally close a chapter.”

Ms Ametoglou hopes to release her tell-all book later this year, something she said would help her “finally recover and gain closure”.

In 2015, Ms Ametoglou took Nixon to court in an attempt to stop him releasing his tell-all book.

She eventually lost, with Nixon releasing his book My Side in December 2015, after the Victorian Supreme Court granted him permission.
