Longtime MLB slugger Nelson Cruz is returning to the Minnesota Twins for a third season after agreeing to a one-year deal with the team, according to multiple reports.
Per reports, the 40-year-old's deal will be worth $13 million.
Cruz has paced the Twins in home runs each of the past two seasons, launching 41 in 2019 and 16 in last year's abbreviated campaign. Those totals placed him in a tie for third and in a tie for fifth in the American League, respectively. In 2019, the Twins set an MLB record for most home runs by a team in a season when they blasted 307.
In his two seasons with the Twins, Cruz has batted .308 and has posted a 1.020 OPS. The team has won the AL Central each of the past two years, but the Twins are still mired in an ugly 18-game postseason losing streak that stretches back to 2004.
